The number of people becoming homeless has seen new highs this week as housing support becomes tighter forcing people onto the streets.
According to the National Audit office, over the last six years, homelessness of all kinds has increased significantly, with an overnight count last autumn recording 4,134 rough sleepers (a 134% increase since the conservatives took power) with the potential for figures to be much greater in 2017. These figures highlight the huge problem the UK has with homelessness and the devastating economic restraints that have depleted the drive to aid those in need.
The Local Government Association – “which represents councils – said local authorities were having to house “the equivalent of an extra secondary school’s worth of homeless children in temporary accommodation every month.”
“The net cost to councils of doing this has tripled in the last three years, as they plug the gap between rising rents and frozen housing benefit.”
Action for children is a national charity that takes action on behalf of 370,000 children, young people, parents and carers across the UK. With over 100 year’s experience as the voice of children and adolescents the charities mission is to always “do what’s right, do what’s needed and do what works for children”.

Ran and organised by Action for Children, Byte Night is the children charities biggest annual fundraiser, a national ‘sleep-out’ event that tackles the issue of homeless young people within the UK. Each year, hundreds of like-minded people from the technology and business sectors give up their beds for one night to help change the lives of the 83,000 vulnerable young people sleeping rough each year – through no fault of their own.
Action for Children has supported many young people, from their humble beginnings to a safe and happy future.
On the 6th October, Intelligent Services Group will be joining the 1000’s of volunteers across the UK sleeping out to promote awareness of the growing homeless issue within our country. Please support our amazing staff braving the night and by following our donation link below. Your support would be hugely appreciated!
